Stocks mixed at opening following good housing news
Stocks are mixed at opening, following encouraging news on housing prices.
In the first 20 minutes of trading, the Dow is up about one-tenth of 1 percent.
The broader S&P 500 is just below water and the tech-heavy Nasdaq is down two-tenths of 1 percent.
The Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller home price index rose 0.3 percent in December, the seventh straight month of rises, indicating a modest recovery in the housing market. Only five of the 20 cities in the index showed a housing price decline from November to December.
