The most recent breakdown of all Toyota recalls thus far
Today, I asked Toyota for a detailed breakdown of all the company's recalls -- the floor mat recall last fall, the sticking-gas-pedal recall in January, the brakes recall this month and other, smaller recalls -- and Toyota got back to me with this a few minutes go.
As you can see, the majority of recalled vehicles were sold in the U.S.
Consider this information in the clip-'n-save category:
Recalls associated with gas pedals, U.S.:
- Pedal entrapment (the fall floor mat recall): 5.4 million vehicles.
- Sticking pedal (the January sticking-pedal recall): 2.3 million vehicles.
-- Running total: 7.7 million.
Number involved in both recalls (overlap): 2.1 million.
-- Running total: 7.7 million (minus) 2.1 million = 5.6 million.
Recalls associated with gas pedals, other countries:
- Europe: 1.8 million.
- China: 75,000.
-- Running total: 5.6 million + 1.8 million + 75,000 = 7.475 million.
Recalls associated with squishy-feeling brakes on hybrids:
- Prius (U.S.): 133,000.
- HS250h (U.S.): 14,550.
- Prius (Japan): 200,000.
- HS250h (Japan): 12,000.
- Sai (Japan): 11,000.
Other recalls:
Camry steering hose: 7,300.
Tacoma drive-shaft: 8,000.
Total of all recalls thus far, worldwide: 7.475 million + 133,000 + 14,550 + 200,000 + 12,000 + 11,000 + 7,300 + 8,000 = 7.86 million.
