Report: Private sector added only 13,000 jobs in June

The private sector of the U.S. economy added only 13,000 jobs in June, according to ADP employment services, a disappointing number that came in below estimates and portends bad things from the government's June jobs report due out Friday.

In May, according to ADP, the private sector added 57,000 jobs. But in June? Statistically, across a workforce as big as the United States'? Zero job growth; 13,000 new jobs is a statistically meaningless number.

This is bad news for the economy. If the ADP report is seconded by the Labor Department's June jobs report, it means that the private sector -- which is the engine of growth in this economy, lest we've forgotten that, amid all of our various government stimulus programs and subsides -- is refusing to add jobs. That means employers are not comfortable enough with their prospects to hire.

In May, according to the government, the economy added more than 440,000 jobs. But almost every one of those was a census worker, jobs that will go away when the count ends in the fall.

Today's report adds to concerns that the economic recovery is stalling and gives ammunition to the more bearish among us who worry that we're headed into a double-dip recession.

------------------------
You only think the census jobs are going to end in the fall. No doubt congress will extend those jobs another 99 weeks!

Perhaps we should have a permanent census, since continuous counting is required to assure real accuracy.

It is actually a true "growth" industry.

What does anyone really expect? The government is spending money they don't have, taxes will be going through the roof, ObamaCare is a huge unknown for business and sure to cost a significant amount of money, and capital has dried up and likely to worsen as new financial oversight legislation passes. I suspect that Cap & Trade will put the nail in the economic coffin and ensure us a "lost decade" like Japan. Thank you Federal government.

Just how long will the press cover for the incompetent, socialist, Marxist, America hating excuse for a president occupying the Oval Office? It is obvious by now that either Obama doesn't know how to get the economy rolling again or he is intentionally trying to hurt this country. Take you pick. Either way we are screwed until the November and 2012 elections.

I'll tell you why we aren't having jobs created. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. It is because the government is anti-business with their tax the wealthy, tax the middle class, tax corporations, tax small businesses mentality. Government has become a lead yoke around the necks of entrepreneurs and existing businesses. Until Businesses know what the government will do to them, they will sit tight and NOT hire or create jobs.

We have idiots running Congress and the Executive Branch. If you took the wisdom, business knowledge, common sense, honesty and integrity out of Obama, Reid and Pelosi it wouldn't fill a thimble. We have got to have the most incompetent people running the federal government than at any other time in this country's history. Just look at what is going on now. EVERYTHING Obama, Reid and Pelosi have done, or been confronted with is a disaster. To see have incompetent Obama is just look at his response to the Gulf oil spill. How can anyone have confidence in Obama's ability to grow the economy when he can't deal with a leaking oil well?

You are right. We are a nation of idiots to put Obama, Reid and Pelosi in charge of running the country. I think this November and November of 2012 the country will get a lot smarter and kick their collective a$$es to the curb. Obama has taken a slightly worse than normal recession and turned it into a near depression. He has done NOTHING to correct the econimis problems the country faces. He got nearly a TRILLION DOLLARS in a stimulus package and in return promised us unemployment would not rise above 8%. Well, that was a big @$$ mistake on out part. The only answer Obama knows is to raise taxes and spend more money we don't have. This won't work for you family, or anyone's family, and it sure won't work for the country either. Obama has this country on a fast track to bankruptcy.

Europe, which is in dire straights, is producing more jobs than the U.S. Heck, Sweden, with a population of 1/40th of ours, is producing more private sector jobs. Their secret? They have modified trade agreements so that they don't outsource jobs and factories! Now, Obama knows this. He *promised* to reopen NAFTA and every other trade agreement to prevent job and factory and technology outsourcing. He has done nothing of the sort. Instead, he has been swimming in the cesspool of Wall Street money and influence and far left wing "causes". Unless this fool wakes up, he might just be the last American President.

Your farking deregulation-first president, Bush, helped create the conditions you're so adamantly against - that includes the unregulated oil company now failing to stop the oil leak. While there are millions of jobs in the private sector - ranging from agriculture to engineering - currently filled by illegal aliens.

Democrats freely acknowledge illegal aliens are here and working in millions of jobs while American citizens remain jobless. Rather than mandate enforcement of our laws (as they were elected to do), they opt instead to throw the unemployed a bone and then blame the Republicans when the well runs dry.

There are more than enough jobs currently held by illegal aliens (all across the workforce spectrum) to put every unemployed American to work - many in their own home towns or nearby.

This CAN be done if Congress mandates enforcement of our immigration and employment laws.

Don't hold your breath though. Democrats would rather allow millions of illegal aliens to remain in jobs intended for Americans, then risk political contributions and alienating the Hispanic voting bloc.

And Americans think the businesses that hire illegal aliens are corrupt!!!!

brykin - Actually, Bill Clinton created the current mess. It was under his Presidency that we got "free trade" and massive job outsourcing, NAFTA and other bogus trade agreements, where jobs were used as trade currency for foreign policy "support" or acquiescence, bank and investment firm deregulation, the modifications of corporate law permitting the boards and executives to escape responsibility for corporate harm, the H1-B visa, the modified L-1 visa (changed from a 60 day training program to an 8 year work visa--- and, hence, the hordes of Indian and Chinese "guest workers" taking jobs from US engineers, scientists, computer programmers, mathematician's, etc.) . Bush merely continued Clinton's assault on the country, got us bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan, and turned the Constitution into so much toilet paper with the Patriot Act and Homeland "Security". Now, I think you will have to admit this, Obama has continued every one of those bad policies, has brought the same incompetent self serving swine used by those past two Administrations into his Administration, and has become an even worse scoundrel than either of them. I loathe Bush and the Republican leadership, but Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Kerry, Schumer, et al manage to make those Republican fools look good.

I know I know I know... this is much easier said than done... but what kinds of jobs? IT jobs? Engineering? Green jobs won't be entry level for the most part. The one silver lining is that while the currency issue with China will make Chinese goods more expensive... meaning that EVERYTHING consumer good is going to be more expensive in the US, it means that the Chinese consumer will have more purchasing power. Get yourself a graduate degree in engineering, or figure out how to invest or exploit the opportunities for the Chinese consumer. Because going back to jobs that only existed because of a false economy isn't an option. Because illegal immigrants will take illegal wages for entry level jobs. Because free trade means that union jobs ain't coming back. Because companies like GM and Chrysler are only biding time before a company like Hyundai crushes them via big bro HHI. The real problem is that the current economy is based on consumption and continued population growth. Both are unsustainable. And that's a fact. Only magnitudes are debatable. The govt should be focused on free AND fair trade, and education. But too many programs stop too far short. My point is, we are going to improve, but unless there are some drastic changes on all sides, there were be large chunks of the population left behind. Houses worthless. Experience nulled. While others will thrive, many just a lucky happenstance of time and place and when they were born.

If Bush would have dine the same as Obama the country would be bankrupt by now. The economy was doing fine until Democrats took control of Congress. That is when the wheels started coming off the economic wagon. Under Bush and a Republican controlled Congress, unemployment was hoovering around 4.5% and GDP was growing nicely. AS soon as Democrats starting calling the shots the economy went to $h1t.

Two things. One, Obama is too stupid to wake up. He is totally incompetent so doing hold your breath waiting on her to do something intelligent. Second, don't automatically assume he is an american citizen. The jury is still out on that since we have never seen a legitimate birth certificate with the proper signatures and stamps.

mibrooks27 - Obama represents a middle ground. He's not half the liberal I am, and I'm not half the liberal of the most liberal I know. It would be nice to have someone as progressive as Bush was right-leaning, but it's no good for America when politicians hew to one extreme. Our system of government was supposed to be self-balancing and self-limiting, right?

Clinton and outsourcing? That's how this started? You're sure it wasn't American corporations looking for new markets for their agricultural and industrial products, in a world that's eager to emulate American ingenuity? It was a bunch of selfish wannabe computer programmers in India and factory serfs in China who lobbied Clinton hard enough for him to send our jobs overseas? Really??

8 million illegal aliens have jobs.

Every month, we give visas to 135,000+ working-age foreigners.

Obviously, our Wall Street & Washington Rulers aren't going to let a little thing like a recession get in the way of their master plan to replace the American middle class with docile foreign serfs...

It's hard to have a double dip Great Recession when we haven't even seen the end of the first dip yet.

And, there are no signs of the end of the first dip on the horizon.

No net jobs created in months, years even. American jobs shipped overseas by the millions. That's not a Great Recession. That's the end of the world, economy-wise. Who will spend in America, when nobody has any money left? When nobody has a job?

mibrooks27 has it right. The usual partisanship-on these pages just is doctrinnaire stupidity. When Greenspan warned against exubberance in 1996, he was called on Clinton, Rubin, and Summers to rein in. He was overruled for Rubin who set interest rates. Clinton wanted to get artificially high consumption on his watch and Rubin wanted an unregulated bank to which to return.

Bush essentially had the same policy except for tax cuts that worsened the deficit, not the worst of his economic sins which were many. He was for more home ownership than Clinton and relaxed the standards even more.

But that which was unbelievable that Obama went back to Summers, the high priest of de-regulation, who destroyed Harvard's endowment with his wild optimism, as his absolute czar. Summers has the same de-regulation, low stimulus policy he had in the 1990s and essentially has pushed it through with a few gestures. Obama has let himself be dominated by interest groups--health in his health bill, the banks in his continued bailout, foreign economic policy and international financial regulation in charge of 3 Citi VPs who got bonuses in 2008, oil with Salazar in Interior (he put the head of MMS in charge of Massachusetts windmills!!! and then fired her as the guilty person!!!)

I voted for Obama, but I think he is the worst of the three because at least Clinton and Bush didn't pretend to be anything that they weren't and Obama created hope and destroyed it.
