what to do with empty storefronts?
small, neighborhood soup kitchens, free clinics, outlets for free groceries and household items, free legal aid., a warm/cool place to sit for hot chocolate, coffee or ice water, for poor folks managing through difficult weather, free clothing and umbrellas and hats.
not a joke.
there are more people in need of these things in all of our neighborhoods than one might think.
more and more people are in need.

Anyone who hasn't the New Yorker article that Ezra linked to (Did we execute an innocent man?), really should read it. The death penalty has never been an issue that I have ever gotten particularly riled up about (I'm probably against it, but never been that passionate about it). But this article was absolutely devestating. Thanks, Ezra, for linking to it, and everyone else please read it.
