Phil Schiliro

M2X00222_9.JPG

Given his influence, and his apparent presence at every important meeting relating to health-care reform (or anything else that travels through Congress), you know who does a really good job staying out of the public eye? Phil Schiliro, who serves as the White House's legislative affairs guy, and is on the right-hand side of the photograph above. Almost every time I get an account of a meeting between the president and an important congressman, or group of them, Schiliro is mentioned as one of the few other individuals present in the room. But you never hear about him.

It's a reminder that a lot of us in the media are reporting on the players who want to be reported on, which means we're only assembling a partial picture.
