Sullivan Disowns McCaughey
In the past, Andrew Sullivan and I have gone a few rounds on his decision to publish Betsy McCaughey's "No Exit" and then brag about the influence it had on the debate. Today, he published something that reads a lot like an apology. "In retrospect, it was not my finest hour," he writes. Fair enough. He also says, and I agree, that "it was one piece in a magazine. It's being treated as if it were a turning point in history. Please."
All this might mean he wants to take it out of his bio, or at least not refer to it so triumphantly. But more broadly, it's good to see McCaughey losing her last shreds of credibility. At this point, I don't know of a single serious voice willing to defend her lies. Props to Sullivan for joining the chorus.

Ezra, you're too nice to Sully. He thinks he is too cute for words or logic when he later sets it up as Betsy vs. Hillary. In Sullyworld, Hillary will always lose, no matter what the subject, and Sully will always have pure and principled motives, actual history not withstanding.
