Nice to see some honest advertisements

In the 1960s, oil companies were advertising that they supplied the world with enough energy to melt glaciers!

I don't have a cite but cigarettes were advertised as a treatment for Asthma (IIRC). I do remember when Chesterfields advertised itself as "a treat, not a treatment" in the mid to late 40s.

Hmmmm.
