From the chat, @Ezra:

"Now, maybe conservatives don't want compromises at all, but then, they should have won the presidency and the Congress in the last two elections."

(A) No, they don't and (B) the Democrats won the presidency and the last two congressional elections, and it seems like they can't wait to compromise.

That being said, I think a few of those points--such as selling insurance across state lines--is worth fighting for. It appears to me (I may be mistaken) that the version currently in the bill allows states to essentially opt in (i.e., your insurance companies can sell in my state if my insurance companies can sell in yours) rather that say that Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tennessee can sell in Kentucky and Alabama and wherever, no matter what those states thing. I don't think that's an entirely conservative concept, either. Not really respecting states rights, etc.

In any case, the Republicans clearly don't want to work with the Democrats and the Democrats are too timid to force their agenda. So I think HCR may just be stuck.
