The "It's working" bubble is nonsense. Does Toles really believe that Al-Quaeda's choice to work in Afghanistan rested in any even minor part on hopes that the U.S. would attack and become hopelessly embroiled there?

Maybe not, but you'd have to admit they are probably thrilled at how much money we are throwing down the toliet and how much resentment we are creating after the fact.

In a word, yes. We taught the Afghan people to use very much the same strategy against the Soviets in the 80's. The idea was to get them bogged down enough that it adversely affected their economy. This is one of several things that eventually led to the fall of the Soviet Union.
