Arguments that would've confused our ancestors

McDonald's is currently trying to convince people that its burgers can, in fact, grow mold. This is considered a selling point, at least in the modern world.

I don't think our ancestors, or at least anyone who was alive during the 50s and 60s "modern cooking revolution" would be surprised by the argument. Sure, why can't you now leave a hamburger on the counter and have it still consumable after 6 months? Heck, just cover it in a moist towelette, use the new microwave on high for 1 minute and voila! Who needs that nasty refridgeration and salt to preserve food anymore?

Those burgers are loaded with salt. Salt which kills mold. McDonald's just doesn't want to say, "It's because they're LOADED with sodium."

I stopped drinking Mountain Dew years ago after I left a glass of the stuff on a table for several weeks (frat house neatness ...) and observed no mold or anything else growing in it. Not even a caffeine-based fungus or something. If it's that inhospitable to terrestrial life, you're probably better off without it.
