Department of Corrections

By Ezra Klein

Austin Frakt had some trouble finding the Medicare cut I mentioned that would hold the growth of a certain class of payments to medical providers to GDP plus one percentage point. That's because I made a mistake. The class of payments I was talking about -- the annual productivity adjustments -- are not held to GDP+1. They're held to "a 10-year moving average of economy-wide private, non-farm productivity." I got their growth rate mixed up with something else in the bill. The underlying point of this post still holds, but it's obviously important that I get my numbers right. Apologies.

And this is a crucial difference between the GOP and 'liberals'. The admission of mistakes.

This is the difference between getting lost in wonkery and having discipline as a writer.

You've become too self-indulgent on health care, to the point that much if not the majority of your non-health care stuff is written by someone else.

Focus!

A simple mistake is not the end of the world, but it's always nice to see someone fess up when they realize they were wrong. Well done.

Kudos. This is the way to post a correction: put it up front and be open about it. A lot of authors get embarrassed and defensive when they have to correct, so they bury it in a footnote. Or even, on the internet, they'll just edit their article without informing anyone.
