Holiday Shoplifting Patrols Make Nearly 270 Arrests

County police said they arrested 269 people and recovered about $111,000 in stolen merchandise and cash as part of a holiday crackdown on shoplifting.
The Christmas anti-theft teams worked undercover at area shopping malls to identify and arrest people on shoplifting charges. The breakdown:
· From Nov. 24 through Jan. 5, the McLean District police station said, 73 people were arrested, 175 criminal charges were filed and $67,778 was recovered in merchandise and cash.
· From Nov. 18 through Jan. 6, the Franconia District Station recorded 95 arrests, 148 criminal charges filed and $11,966 in recovered merchandise and cash.
· From Nov. 23 through Jan. 3, the Fair Oaks District Station recorded 101 arrests, 101 criminal charges filed and $31,498 in recovered merchandise and cash.
