McLean Center Seeks Candidates for Board

is looking for people to serve on its 11-member governing board for 2006-07. Four adult positions and two youth positions are open this year.

The board sets policy and oversees the community center's buildings and programs, including the Alden Theatre and the Old Firehouse Teen Center.

All residents of Dranesville Tax District No. 1 are eligible to run for a seat on the board. Candidates are required to obtain the signatures of 10 McLean area residents to have their names placed on the ballot.

Nominating petition forms will be available at the center beginning Feb. 27. The deadline for filing completed petitions is 5 p.m. March 31.

Adult members generally serve three-year terms; however, because of the recent resignation of Patricia Velander as board chairman, one adult position will be for the remaining year of her term.

Youth members serve one-year terms; candidates must be 15, 16 or 17 years old and live in the McLean or Langley high school areas.
