Same-Sex Marriage Ban Fought

From today's Metro section:

Gay rights activists in Fairfax County last night officially began the local effort to defeat a proposed state constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage. Voters will cast ballots on the amendment Nov. 7.

Representatives from Equality Fairfax organized more than 100 volunteers to walk neighborhoods, work county fairs and organize civic groups in coming months to try to defeat the amendment.

Opponents say the amendment is written so broadly that certain contracts between unwed heterosexual couples would be nullified. Proponents disagree.
