Man Killed in Car Race; Teen Charged

A 23-year-old Fairfax County man was killed late Tuesday while racing against a teenager on Hayfield Road, police said.

Michael S. Garcia of the 7000 block of Darby Towne Court in the Alexandria area of the county died after his 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse struck a tree heading east on Hayfield Road near Kingstowne Village Parkway, police said. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, whom police identified as Bryan Flores, 18, of the 6000 block of Liverpool Lane in the Alexandria section of the county, has been charged with reckless driving, police said.

Officer Tina Prescott, a Fairfax County police spokeswoman, said the investigation is continuing.
