UPDATE 5/3: Assistant Prosecuter Resigns in Wake of Criticism

The Fairfax County prosecutor in charge of the case of a Fort Washington minister accused of raping and beating a woman in Fairfax City last year, informed neither the victim nor her superiors that she would seek reduced charges against the man.

Even as Rev. Eugene A. Marriott Jr. was sentenced to 16 months in prison Assistant Fairfax Commonwealth's Attorney Toni S. Fay, said "I wish Mr. Marriott well." The victim in the crime said she was "shocked" and Fay's boss, Commonwealth's Attorney Robert F. Horan Jr., said he was stunned by the action.
