Tom Ford

"We" have been reprimanded for overuse of the first person plural and so "we" will do our best not to use any pronoun at all whenever possible because "we" do not want to upset our readers. "We" love them far too much for that. Our love for our readers knows few bounds because their loyalty keeps us knee-deep in Prada shoes. Mmwah! Big kiss!

Tom Ford (Natalie Guillen/The New Mexican)

Tom Ford, the former creative director of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, has nothing to do with the current fall 2006 shows being unveiled in Paris, but leave it to him to still manage to turn heads. He announced today that he has struck a deal with the folks at Zegna to produce a line of luxury menswear under a Tom Ford label to debut in the fall. He also announced that its sole point of distribution for the time being will be at his new Tom Ford boutique on Madison Avenue, which will also open in the fall.

There was a suspicion that he might be announcing that he had been secretly consulting on the Versace line since it looked so eerily like collections from the Gucci archive. For the last year or so, folks have been feeling as if Tom were showing a little too much of his raunchy side. But maybe that was just residual bitterness that he'd gone and left the ready-to-wear business and people were angry about all that good design that had gone missing. In any case, everyone looks forward to seeing what Tom will do with a menswear line that bears his name.

In Paris, we (sorry, it couldn't be helped) went to the cocktail party celebrating the opening of the new Bottega Veneta store on the Avenue Montaigne. It is a lovely store, but truth be told all these luxury stores look alike. Open, spacious, a security guard or two and a lot of really expensive merchandise on the shelves.

Keep the we, Robin! The we rocks.

At least don't go down without a fight.

Let's have a mf'ing walkoff. ;)

The "we" is journalistically necessary. Don't let the fact that this is a "blog" confuse; she's still writing for the washingtonpost.com, not some blogspot.com site.

Robin, you're hilarious, I love the fashion week coverage. :)

I rather liked the "we"- it struck me as a kind of tongue-in-cheek royal "we."

Rather like the "we" as we say "oui" to all things Robin, can't wait for her to depart the old WP and set up her own publication, that would be great. Yea.

I am a Washington DC native living in Paris..I know it is impossible to get tickets for any shows - but where could I go just to catch a glimpse of some of the activity...?
