Just Breathe
The Bill Blass show was Tuesday morning under the big tent in New York's Bryant Park. The collection is designed by Michael Vollbracht now, and it is always a fascinating show because of the cast of characters he attracts.
His front row includes Joan Rivers, Sigourney Weaver, Liza Minnelli and Janet Jackson. He should win a trophy just for the variety. Janet has been showing off her new, lean figure on assorted magazine covers recently and she is indeed back to her teeny tiny self. We could barely make out her face, however, as she was hustled in surrounded by a posse of big burly security guards.
We wish we could tell you about some naughty celebrity antics at one of the fashion shows today, but everyone was on their best behavior and focused on the clothes.
We found ourselves seated next to Tommy Hilfiger at the Narciso Rodriguez show, and we were silently hoping that he wouldn't be holding a grudge against us for our less than flattering review of his unfortunate reality show, "The Cut." It seemed that all was forgiven and as we chatted him up he explained that he was at the show for no other reason than he's a friend of Narciso's and thinks he's just a terrific designer.

We also heard that the now-defunct mass market Karl Lagerfeld collection -- which is owned by Hilfiger's company -- will be revived. It was all a little confusing because the name of this mass line seems to have changed about 50 times, but Hilfiger mentioned that it would be called "KL" or maybe it was just "K" and it would be based in Paris. Of course, this is sometime down the road. Right now there's only the Karl Lagerfeld collection, not to be confused with Lagerfeld or Lagerfeld Gallery or the Collection Formerly Known As Lagerfeld Gallery. In short, the mass market isn't shed of Karl Lagerfeld yet.
We saw the Cloak show Tuesday night. For those who do not dabble in downtown rocker fashion, Cloak is a menswear line known for its skinny jeans, slim blazers and rock star coolness. We liked the collection, but we overheard more than one hipster gentleman complain, "Sometimes a man doesn't want to wear tight jeans in the summer. Sometimes a man needs to let his balls breathe." Well, okay.

Thanks for putting the Cloak quote in there because it's a great reminder that it's people who wear clothes, not the other way around, no matter what the fashion world thinks.

Robin, you're far more entertaining than the clothes you cover, as you are the bomb, so go ahead with your Pulitzer, girl.
