Why We Love Our Job

We spent much of our day locked in our room writing and so we saw a paltry few shows this afternoon: Alberta Ferretti, Gucci, Anna Molinari. We stopped by 10 Corso Como, the famous Milan fashion boutique. We never buy anything here but the store is fascinating because it is filled with all sorts of odds and ends and various design houses create garments specifically for the store. It is a favorite stop among retailers because it provides merchandising inspiration....or so they say. We have yet to visit another store in which treadmills are sold alongside bottles of vintage Krug champagne and trompe l'oeil Martin Margiela sneakers.

John Legend

After dinner, we headed to the party to celebrate Gucci's 85th anniversary. And while we were certainly impressed that Gucci has been around so long, we were more intrigued by the promise of a performance by singer John Legend. Sometime around 11:30 p.m. John took the stage, along with a bass player and a couple of backup singers. John was dutifully outfitted in Gucci gear.

We may have mentioned that we're extreme John Legend fans and so a seat on a bench just at the foot of the stage was much to our liking. John sang several songs from his upcoming CD which we believe he said would be in stores on Oct. 4, but he mentioned it in a very off-handed way so that it didn't sound like the overt commercial that it was. Hey, a man has to move his merchandise. And, yes, the songs were splendid including one that he said was called "PDA" -- or public displays of affection.

John, we like to believe we're on a first-name basis, also sang a few old songs. The reaction from the crowd was postive but it seems like it would be tough to enjoy his music if you're not fluent in English -- so much of the pleasure is in the words. There was more than a little chattering in the background. We, however, were swooning.

love how you use the royal "we," Queen Robin. Was it just me or was the Dolce and Gabbana tailoring a bit off this season? the reaction for the fall seemed tepid.

I am SO JEALOUS you were so close to John!

Actually, I hate the royal we. Makes it seem like the fashion world is some kind of sci-fi Hive Mind. Resistance is futile, you will be couturiered.

Being the John Legend fan that I am, the CD comes out October 24th not October 4th. You got me all excited saying it would be out next week which I knew couldn't be right because the 4th is a Wednesday and we all know most CD's come out on Tuesday. Right?
