PostPoints tip: Shop savvier with an iPhone or Android device
You should know by now that you can check Web pricing on the go at such mobile-optimized sites as m.pricegrabber.com, but if you have an iPhone or a device running Google's Android software you should also try out a program called ShopSavvy (a free download in the App Store and the Android Market, with details at biggu.com). This application ingeniously combines a phone's camera, Internet connection and location awareness: First it takes a picture of an item's bar code, then it looks up the product online, then it searches Web stores for their prices, then it consults a separate database to see which stores near you carry the same item. In moments, you can confirm that you've found the best deal in town, find out that differences in price are so small as not to matter, or learn where you should go next... but if ShopSavvy tells you to make your purchase online, please don't destroy your karma by conducting that transaction on your phone right in somebody else's store.
