Sony reveals new portable, codenamed the NGP
Sony on Thursday morning unveiled its next portable gaming system, aptly code-named the Next Generation Portable.
The new portable has an enormous amount of power and sports a 5-inch touchscreen, a rear multi-touch pad, dual joysticks, and WiFi and 3G connectivity. It also has front and rear-facing cameras.
The graphics on the new handheld are supposed to be off the charts. PC World reported that it is more or less like a Playstation 3, and that Sony was running Metal Gear Solid on the portable without a hitch during its news conference in Tokyo.
The new portable also ditches Sony's Universal Media Disc format for a combination of flash-based memory cards and digital downloads.
There's no pricing information yet on the handheld, which Sony says will be available this holiday season.
