Poll: Have you bought the iPad 2?

By Hayley Tsukayama

The big day is here. It seems like only yesterday when all eyes were on San Francisco, waiting for the big anouncement, but for Apple fanatics the past nine days have been an eternity.

The iPad 2 is officially for sale online as of 1 a.m. Pacific time or 4 a.m. Eastern time today. Of course, if you want to pick one up from a brick-and-mortar store, you'll have to wait until 5 p.m., your local time.

Have you taken the plunge? Let us know here!

Haven't made a decision yet? Here's a recap of our best coverage to help you.

For a quick idea of what the tablet has to offer, check out Rob's hands-on from the launch event on March 2. Or see our chart on the differences between the iPad and the iPad 2.

If you're more interested in the software features of the iPad 2 you may want to look at our post about the lastest operating system that is shipping with it, Apple iOS 4.3. And while you may have heard the cameras aren't great on the new tablet, check out this article for a summary of Facetime on the iPad 2.

Those considering alternatives might want to check out Rob's lukewarm (at best) review of the Motorola Xoom.

Still can't get enough iPad 2? Our review roundup should hold you until Rob publishes his thoughts tonight.

Missing poll option:Already have a different tablet.

Also, can we nuke the spammer?

Nope. I have an iPad 1, and I am very happy with it. May kick around idea of an iPad 3 when the time comes, but I doubt it.

It's always amusing when people line up to get a new product 30 seconds after it goes on sale. This just in: a few days from now the product will still be available and you won't have to wait for 3 hours to get into the store w/ the other sheep to buy it. Humanity has gone many thousands of years w/o the iPad2. You might be able to survive until next Wednesday w/o it.

That being said, I plan to wait in line tonight w/ the rest of the idiots for the 2 :).

Went to the online store first thing this morning and all models were back ordered for 2-3 weeks. However, I suspect that the line at the mall at 5 PM will be even longer.

Agree with wiredog: can't you block the spammer's IP address?

pcow

The new iPad already has a jailbreak available, that Apple is actually ok with. They just published a new mirror site so everyone can easily get into the automated service:

http://fms.nu/eYM6hB

Now you can basically do everything and anything with it. It's the best product on the market.

Like njacobs, I want to see an option for "I'm happy with my iPad 1." I don't expect to jump for iPad 3 either -- I will run this thing into the ground and then get iPad 5 or 6 or whatever we're up to by then.

What about the option planning to buy the IPad 2 at a later date. What's the rush. They'll be there a month from now!

"This just in: a few days from now...you won't have to wait for 3 hours to get into the store w/ the other sheep to buy it."

Three days from now there may not be any iPads in the stores. On the Apple website, when I ordered at zero hour, shipping was estimated at 3-5 business days. An hour or so later, ship time was up to a few weeks.

I don't understand why anyone would waste money on any iPad.

You can get a really nice netbook or laptop for the same amount of money and do much more with it.

It is just another silly stupid gadget for people with more money than sense.

@Janice11,

I have a very nice laptop, and I like it a lot. But it is not at all the same as the iPad, and there are things the iPad can do that the laptop cannot (and places where I can more conveniently take it and use it). A netbook doesn't compare either (I have used one of those too).

You don't have to understand it, like it, or want it -- but you also don't have to denigrate those of us who do.
