EEOC Issues Report on Asian American Employment
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has issued a report prepared by the Asian American and Pacific Islander Work Group that contains recommendations designed to increase the presence of the minority group in federal employment. The recommendations were sent to EEOC Chair Naomi C. Earp.
“As a former EEO Director, I am aware of the serious concerns of members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community regarding barriers to federal sector employment and advancement,” Earp said. “I encourage agencies to carefully review the recommendations contained in this report as they strive to become a model employer for all Americans, including Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.”
The recommendations include:
--Creating requirements that hold senior leadership accountable for programs that enhance the selection and promotion of qualified Asian American and Pacific Islander candidates to the highest levels;
--Encouraging agencies to enlist their affinity groups to become liaisons between employees and management;
--Providing internal and external assistance to Asian American and Pacific Islander employees and affinity groups seeking to engage with an agency’s EEO Office;
--Re-invigorating the government-wide Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program, with an emphasis on greater diversity among its participants;
--Providing skill development opportunities to Asian American and Pacific Islander employees to increase their competitiveness for professional progress within the agency; and
--Promulgating an Executive Order that addresses issues of discrimination against Asian American and Pacific Islander employees in the federal sector and that supports programs to encourage professional advancement.

We need to truly embrace this inspiring moment of change by promoting and endorsing a Litter Free Inauguration. Let's not trash our National Mall, like Grant Park on Election Night. Everyone should bring a canvass or transparent bag and carry out their own trash. Let's prove to the Administration that this is a new era of social responsibility and civic engagement!
