Public Service Group Sends Warm Farewell to Voinovich
One of the first off the blocks to react to the retirement announcement by Sen. George V. Voinovich (R-Ohio) was the Partnership for Public Service, a good government group that focuses on the federal workforce. Voinovich, who said today that he will not seek reelection next year, is the top Republican on the Senate subcommittee on oversight of government management, the federal workforce and the District of Columbia.
Partnership for Public Service President and CEO Max Stier has this to say about the senator:
“Beyond his outstanding service to the people of Ohio, Senator Voinovich has worked on behalf of all Americans. He brought to the United States Senate his vast experience as a mayor and governor, and dedicated himself to enhancing government effectiveness. Successfully improving government management is little noticed and does not win elections, but that never stopped Senator Voinovich. He has worked tirelessly to make our government work better, and nowhere has his impact been more significant, and lasting, than in his efforts to improve the federal workforce.
Senator Voinovich came to Washington committed to rolling up his sleeves and working in partnership with federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, the private sector, federal employee representatives and the dedicated men and women of the civil service to ensure that employees are empowered to do their best in serving the American people. The list of federal management improvements championed by Senator Voinovich is long and impressive, and if we know Senator Voinovich, he will add to that list before he retires from the Senate."

Although I do not disagree with the Senator in a number of issues, but just exactly what has he done -- with a rogue and evil Bush/Cheney admin controlling the federal govt and a broke and worthless Congress. I respect the Senator and applaude his efforts concerning the Impeachment Articles, but the federal work place is about the worse place to work; especially in the DoD! Let's hope things improve with the Obama admin...

Senator Voinovich has been a great supporter of the federal workforce and the federal system - often he has been the lone voice of reason. He understood both the value of the workforce and the challenges it faced. Over time, he has supported many initiatives that have made the government a better place to work and allowed us to function better. His wisdom, support and reason will be sorely missed by many.
