New Map Shows Federal Employees, Retirees by State
Federally Employed Women (FEW) has released an interactive map showing the organization’s compilation of 2008 federal employment statistics by state and congressional district.
“In addition, for the first time ever, we have been able to obtain from the federal government totals of federal retirees and postal workers living in each county," said Sue Webster, the organization's president.
Nationwide, the federal government employs 1.9 million people and 761,000 postal employees. There are also 1.8 million federal retirees living in the United States.
“There is not one congressional district in the United States where no federal workers are employed or where no federal retirees currently live. Therefore, federal worker issues should be of interest and concern to all elected officials,” said Janet Kopenhaver, FEW’s Washington Representative.
The interactive map can be found here.
