Here's my guess: Obama wants to pick Larry Summers for Treasury Secretary but he's got lots of opposition to that from women offended by his "girls can't do math" gaffe. Ergo, Hillary as Secretary of State.

If he picks any of the folks on the list, they should be balanced out by the Council of Economic Advisors. For example, if Summers is picked, then Paul Krugman and Jeffrey Sachs should be invited to serve on the CEA, to provoke much needed intellectual discussion on these important matters at hand.
