Clinton Arrives at State Dept.
It must have felt like deja vu all over again for Sec. Hillary Rodham Clinton during her arrival this morning at the State Department: hundreds of people greeted her with loud cheers, smiles and cellphone cameras. She worked a rope line before addressing the crowd at Foggy Bottom, telling them "I am absolutely honored and thrilled beyond words."
As The Eye's colleague Glenn Kessler reports, Clinton said her tenure would be "a great adventure" but that the career staff should expect to work hard. Clinton, who also oversees the U.S. Agency for International Development, said there are "three legs to the stool of national security -- defense, diplomacy and development. We are responsible for two of three legs.... Robust diplomacy and effective development are the best long term tools for securing America's future."
