Obama meets with smaller agency chiefs
Updated 9:45 p.m. ET
The heads of smaller, but highly visible federal agencies get some face time with President Obama on Wednesday as the commander in chief holds his first formal meetings with them.
Obama held a standard meet and greet this morning with Peace Corps Director Aaron S. Williams, an aide said. The agency announced last week that Vermont had the highest number of Peace Corps volunteers per capita.
Around midday Obama met with Consumer Product Safety Commission Chairwoman Inez Tenenbaum, formerly a key South Carolina supporter of his presidential campaign. The agency on Tuesday announced a major national recall of Roman shades and roll-up blinds because of the risk that children may be strangled by the chords.
Tenenbaum told Obama of her two recent trips to Asia to discuss safety efforts in the production of goods sold in the U.S., according to a readout of the meeting provided by CPSC. She also shared details of the agency's plans to address problems with drywall and agency plans to build a searchable consumer incident database at SaferProducts.gov.
Later in the afternoon, Obama was scheduled to meet with NASA Administrator Charles Bolden. They will reportedly discuss the findings of a blue-ribbon commission on the future of human space exploration. Obama and Bolden first met briefly in mid-May before Bolden was nominated for the post.

"strangled by the chords" is going to cheer me up for the rest of the day.
