White House calls for $20B in budget cuts

By Ed O'Keefe

The Obama administration on Monday will propose cutting more than 120 federal programs costing about $20 billion when it releases its fiscal 2011 budget, the White House said Saturday.

The administration tried, but failed to make similar cuts in last year’s budget proposal.

This year's proposed cuts include ending the Advanced Earned Income Tax Credit, which the White House said was ineffective and used by only 3 percent of eligible taxpayers. Plans also call for merging 38 Education Department considered ineffective or redundant by the White House into 11 new similar programs.

The administration also hopes to end to the National Park Service’s Save America’s Treasures and Preserve America grant programs, a small brownfield cleanup program run by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and an abandoned mine payment program operated by the Interior Department.

“The President believes we need to be honest about what is working and what isn’t and that making tough choices about which programs to fund and which to reduce or terminate is part of governing,” White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer wrote Saturday evening on the White House blog.

REAGAN'S BACK!!!! Sorry, kids, the job creation agenda went as fast as it came. Looks like y'all can kiss those high-speed rail development grants goodbye. We're about to have a go at it with Iran. Can't say we didn't see it coming, can we?

$20 billion is nothing compare to a budget of $2 trillion. It bare scratch the surface of the estimated $1.3 trillion deficit for 2010. This is clearly just a show. Not that the Republicans are serious about cutting the deficits either. The Senate Republicans just voted down the idea of a deficit commission that requires the Senate to vote on its proposals to cut the deficits.

Wow- $20 billion. A first grader could find that much. Come back to us when he has cut at least 25% and not cutting defense.

Obama and our corrupt Congress needs to cut spending in FY2010 budget....not FY2011, yet.

And has our Great Divider-in-Chief apologized for his class-less attack on the Supreme Court?

What a truely fascist-like move........

Now the truth.......

Both Democrats and Republicans voted it down.........but the Democrats run the Senate so why did even "one" of them vote against what their president wanted.?

neolib.........why did even "one" Democrat Senator vote against the orders of their president?

Saving 20 billion dollars is like LeBron getting fined 25K. He probably spends that on a Saturday night. When they talk about 100`s of billions in savings..I`ll pay attention.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: You NOW have an opportunity to end the Recession by encouraging the Banks to make Prudent CRE Loans. The Banks are now unfettered to make Safe Loans. In Large American Cities there are thousands of Major Projects with Entitlements. CRE PRODUCES THE GREATEST NUMBER OF JOBS than any other segment of the Economy. Glass mfg, Steel Industry, truckers, architects, brokers, agents, construction workers, electricians, plumbers, office furniture manufacturers....WE COULD HAVE 6% UNEMPLOYMENT WITHIN 4 MONTHS....THERE ARE 140 SHOVEL READY, ENTITLED, PROJECTS OF 70 OR MORE UNITS READY TO GO IN LOS ANGELES alone!! People will be WORKING FOR 2 YEARS BEFORE THE BUILDINGS ARE COMPLETE; and by then, the Recession will be over and Tenants will Flood the Market to Purchase Modern “green” units. This same scenario is found in Boston, Philadelphia, Houston, Ft. Worth, Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, Kansas City, Tampa, Providence, Hartford, St. Paul—all across America.

Stop the wars. Cut the obscene military spending. It does no good at all. Cut Homeland Security.

Security is wholly illusory.

"Run Our Country as if it was, Your Company"
When you own your own Company, if you have a disagreement with a partner or an associate, you take that person aside away from everyone and work it out, or in a conference room. If you have to correct them in front of another employee you do it with respect and dignity at all times.
ALL BUSINESSES Run Their business this way, small businesses and Large businesses. We even have laws that protect us from VERBAL ABUSE against each other in work places.
So WHY WOULDN' T WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA expect or deserve any less from of OUR LEADERS THAT ARE LEADING OUR COUNTRY; THAT WE VOTED INTO OFFICE ?
I JUST WANT TO SEE ALL OF YOU TO "LEAD US BY EXAMPLE" In a UNITED WAY, the way the "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" MAKES OUR NATION THE LEADER IN OUR WORLD ! !

We The People Should do this as well, Be Professional & Use Respect In Our Comments even if we disagree with their policies.
LEAD BY EXAMPLE" State your disagreements as if you are talking to your boss or a co-worker at work using respect at all times.
What does any of us have to loose by trying this approach ?
Answer Nothing.
What Do All Of us Have to Gain By treating each other with Respect ?
Answer;
RESPECT for each other & ourselves, Without Respect for each other ; WE can't fix any problem, all we do is create more problems for Ourselves & The World.
We all have choices that will IMPACT OUR WORLD ! !
We can be Part of the Problem or Part of the Solution, Our Choice ! !
Part of the Problem is;
Disrespect for each other and Lack of Team Work And Respectful Communication.

Some of these selfish, SELFISH people need to remember "what goes around, comes around!" How long do you really think a JUST God will give YOU the LUXURY of living in such a BLESSED country without sending any retribution!??

ANGRY, BITTER, IMMATURE, and IGNORANT comments by the few!

"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!"

But, they DO know, and they do it anyway!

The Supreme Court has already ruled that big corporation can simply buy up as much air time in the media as they want, essentially depriving the average Americans of their right to the press. Good luck getting Congress to cut spending taxpayers money. Where else are the rich bankers going to make their $ billions of bonuses when Congress stops shoveling money into their pockets. Oh, forget financial reform too.

There is so much FAT in our government, millions of dollars can be cut, and only the lazy, undesrving will feel it! How many MANY people claim disability income and have absolutely NO actual disability?? How many government workers sit lazily at their desks every day, accomplishing little or nothing, (while sending out email jokes, etc.), in a superfluous position that would actually be eliminated if it were in the secular world?? The government list of employees could be trimmed byhundreds of these lazy people, if not thousands! YES, they know who they are!! And, yes! The fraud in the Medicare and Medicaid systems, which have no policing at all. Also, the excessive, useless paperwork, which guarantees some other lazy people their jobs, even though the "papers" are rarely EVER read!! The list could go on and on and into government recipient slots also, as in SCHOOLS and HOSPITALS, where way too much of the money goes to the administration instead of the real workers!! ALL these lazy people would have to find and WORK at some REAL jobs, where they couldn't slough off all day! People keep saying we have too much government!! FALSE!! We simply have too much WASTE in the government that never gets policed or eliminated when it has become expendable! The RIGHT hand simply doesn't know or CARE what the LEFT hand is doing, IF ANYTHING!!

STREAMLINING is the only change needed to save billions of dollars!!

Maybe the government can buy just single ply TP - saves about $20B over 10 years, can be called "green"...makes about as much sense.

It is sad to see these positive programs cut in favor of sending more troops to kill and die in Afghanistan. President Obama's priorities are skewing in the wrong direction. None of these programs had any powerful lobby behind them, so fighting back will be difficult. But there will be $50 billion to subsidize the nuclear power industry, you can rest assured. There will be plenty of money for the wealthy and well-connected. I guess this more change we can believe in.

You have to cut entitlements to make a dent in the budget, lets see if he's man enough to take that on.

Why don't we get a bill going to ELIMINATE the bribery of LOBBYING and PAC money?? How does a bill like that get STARTED without out Congresspeople, who are NEVER going to vote against thei additional cushey money resources?? These bribery games should be ILLEGAL! The money simply wipes out any conscience or honor that any of these people initially possessed when they got elected!!
