Thad Allen's last day in uniform (Video)
(Video by the Associated Press)
Wednesday marked Admiral Thad Allen's final day in a Coast Guard uniform. The National Incident Commander, who is in charge of the oil spill response, will now become a civilian employee of the Department of Homeland Security.
He stepped down as Coast Guard commandant in May but kept his admiral rank through the end of June.
