White House: No Muslim outreach for NASA

By Ed O'Keefe

American diplomats concerned they're being replaced by NASA employees, breathe easy: The Space agency and its administrator, Charles Bolden, are not responsible for reaching out to the Muslim world after all.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden

Bolden caused a global stir last week when he said President Obama had asked him to reach out to Muslim leaders on science issues. He made the comments during an interview with Al Jazeera while visiting Egypt.

But White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday, "That was not his task, and that's not the task of NASA."

Gibbs said White House officials have spoken to Bolden and NASA about the comments.

Despite his sterling credentials as a former astronaut and military man, Bolden has been a bit of a headache for the White House: Some say he was nominated reluctantly for the post only after Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) (Bolden's former space shuttle crewmate) insisted that Obama appoint him. Since then, he cried at his first meeting with agency workers and has upset lawmakers and NASA veterans with the administration's new plans for space exploration.

Another example of Odumba's poor leadership skills. I wonder if Odumba's kids insist on a pony, will he fold?

There are people in here that say' this cant" do notthing president will gut NASA. I wonder what the 'I like war based on lies" former president did for NASA or as I like to say' Did to NASA". We all know what the former President did to all Americans and probably did the same to NASA. I'm glad NASA has a top guy and I hope NASA re-tools and shows what America and Americans can do.

Clearly the administration is throwing him under the bus after the public reacted negatively to Obama's NASA new mandate. How pathetic to use an American hero like Holden as a scapegoat for Obama's failed muslim-pandering policies.

I think he said it was going to be NASA's primary objective. So, was he lying, was he repeating what Obama instructed him to do (surely he would not have said this without proper direction), who told him this was the new policy?

If you're going to be lap dog for the administration at least give the whole story.

And apparently, if it did cause a "global' stir, where were you and the WaPo?

Next thing you know you might pay attention to the Black Panther thing.......

Of Obama did not give the order to "reach out to reach out to the Muslim" he should fire NASA Administrator Charles Bolden. If he dose not fire him then it is an admission that he did give the order.

Obama did NOT say that NASA's main goal was to reach out to Muslims. Is he trying to coordinate muslim countries' support for space programs? Of course? why? Because the more the US tries to leverage MAINSTREAM Muslim coutnries, the more likely they are to support our goals and have a stake in development. That said, it is a complete lie that this his main goal as Tea party folks see it in the "islamification" of the US. Get your head on straight, read the news, do your homework and stop ranting.

Obama didn't say it, yeah right, and this guy is a free thinker.

NASA, reach out to the Muslim world? For what? There are NO contributions from the Muslim world in science or anything else. China developed the concepts in math Obama is trying to give is fellow Islamics credit for. Maybe Obama's Islamic ancestors invented the concept of "ZERO", as in their contribution of benefit to the world. Muslims and Islam are now to be the beneficiaries of affirmative action propping up, puffy, unearned self-esteem via phony compliment and tales of "accomplishment"? Preposterous. Islam and its Muslim members are of no account whatsoever until they end the madness of the bombings, the beheadings, the stonings of their women, in short all the idiotic practices that make their culture so charming. They are vermin, no more deserving of praise than rabid rats and dogs.

Someone's lying - either Obama or his appointee. Either way, it's just another sign of this administration's incompetence.

Worried about Obama's appointees? Remember: "You're doing a heck of a job, Brownie"?

One of them is lying. Since this guy probably doesn't want to be fired from his NASA job, I'll hazard a good the liar is Obummer, once again.

well, i guess if i had the chance to dump obama or dump the NASA boss, i would dump obama... but then we would have biden as president, which is probably even more unsettling than obama as president. but then having pelosi as president is even more unsettling than either obama or biden.. the French had a phrase in the mid-1960s when their two top presidential candidates were de Gaulle and the French Communist Party candidate, that they had to choose between "the devil and the plague..."

What's up with all these folks that hear one thing in the Oval Office, and get spanked a week or two later. Why, it's a bit like the electorate: heard one thing on the campaign trail, and another after innaguration.

Obama must have spoken off teleprompter again!

It's interesting watching the talk-radio brainwash cases find any excuse to attack Obama. If anybody in Washington makes the slightest mistake they will start screaming. Too bad they don't see that the big money interests that are controlling their minds are the ones who are really screwing them.

I just saw the actual video and Bolden says he was told these three things "BEFORE he became the NASA Administrator." So, according to Bolden's words, the "charge" Obama gave him was not a NASA charge.

In other words, he wasn't told to do that as part of his NASA responsibilities, according to the interview.

Seems it was just a general instruction. Yet it is odd that Obama seems to favor Muslims all the time, doesn't it?

Posted by: Antoinette1 | July 12, 2010 5:52 PM | Report abuse

I forgot to say that the issue is really one of unprofessional reporting. First, had reporters closely listened to the video, they would have heard him say Obama said those things to him before he was NASA Administrator. Second, reporters should have followed up with Bolden and verified that it was as NASA Administrator that Obama wanted him to do those things.

Obama reaches out to Muslims as a peaceful diplomatic effort.

Reagan gave Mujahideen rebels (old name for Al-Qaeda) missile launchers.

Mr. O'Keefe,
Not defending the outreach policy thing or Bolden, but there might be other persons involved behind the scenes.

Somebody from the WH press core might want to follow up because Nasawatch has a poster

about a WH posted blog

about a recent John Holdren speech about an Obama-in-Cairo speech that seems to contradict the no-NASA-Muslim-outreach policy thing.

Just think that Holdren and Garver probably have more to do with WH and/or Bolden's outreach policy than they're being given credit for?)

Bolden was pretty clear on his three directives from President Obama. Who is full of crap?

Posted by: Tupac_Goldstein | July 12, 2010 7:39 PM | Report abuse

uhh...but really, why did he say that?

Posted by: wordup1 | July 12, 2010 8:03 PM | Report abuse

Perhaps NASA Admin. Bolden is overloaded -- a good race car driver doesn't necessarily make a good race car team organizer.
Person Pres. Obalmy's verbal suggestion didn't look good in print and Press Sec. Gibbs was given the job of putting distance between the Muslim Democrats and Bolden.

Too late Barry, your credibility is already shot.

When people are so filled with rage or hate or racism against others they fail to see the obvious. The Muslims claims have been that for 1500 years your false royal families and false churches have been worshiping false gods in the heavens instead of the actual lord most high. WAKE UP people.
The false gods your western world have BEEN worshiping just left or turned to the Light.
If this world wants to be included into galactic civilization they must see that the Muslims are your true brothers and you have been deceived by your leaders. Those who do not realize the truth before the changes of the Sun will have to learn by experience, meaning tribulation or worldly trials.
You worshiped false gods, your churches lied to you about Christ the Messiah Ascended like the prophet Muhammed Ascended after him. The Babylonian Romans prevented you from this truth by giving you technology.

NASA and this administration are trying to figure out how to tell the general public without greater conflict. Pay attention to what is really happening instead of following your own rage and ignorance.

If you want to truly understand the information is out there. The truth is out there. It is also found in your heart, but if you hate everyone you cant feel your heart so at least pay attention to reality.
Wake up people.
We are not your enemy and we never have been.

Is Bolden a Muslim? Who does he work for? Wasn't he vetted before being offered the job?

In a previous article at his first meeting as NASA he got all teary eyed describing how the Middle East looked from space.

I wonder why that didn't happen when he viewed the United States of America from space.

And what does he have on Fl Sen Nelson - besides being a crewmate - that Nelson would push for such a nincompoop to be made NASA Administrator?

I think Obama said exactly what Bolden said he did but maybe it wasn't for public comsumption.

Posted by: mlemac | July 13, 2010 1:12 PM | Report abuse

So now we don't want to be friends with Muslims any more? I'm so confused.

Posted by: jiji1 | July 13, 2010 3:27 PM | Report abuse

Is Hot Conflict a spambot?

Just asking.

Posted by: AEvans | July 14, 2010 9:10 AM | Report abuse

obama has obfuscated on several other issues as well, and Gibbs has been equally opaque. He says one thing and does another. Bolden simply let the cat out of the bag too early. You can bet that NASA will be doing exactly what Bolden said. I'd look for news about NASA in Malaysia with in a year.

As per Google, Zero was used in India well before Islam in 7th century. Zero was passed to Europe by Arabs who brought it from India.
European called this and other numbers as ARABIC Numerals. That is what history says.
