Wanda Sykes on government contracting

What exactly is a government procurement specialist? Comedian Wanda Sykes provided a good answer on Wednesday night during an interview on "Larry King Live."

Sykes, a Washington-area native, worked for the National Security Agency as a procurement specialist (making her a member of Top Secret America) before her comedy and acting career.

"Basically, I shopped all day. Just bought things," she told King.

"What did you procure?" the CNN host asked.

"Anything from, like, office furniture to, like, you know, intel equipment," she said.

She's right -- procurement officers essentially buy things for their federal agencies. If only we could call procurement folks "buying officers" or "personal agency shoppers."

"What do they do at the NSA?" King asked later.

"Basically, they collect intelligence. Yeah. They didn't get much from me," Sykes said.

King concluded this round of questions by declaring that the title procurement specialist "sounds raunchy."

"Raunchy? I wasn't buying hookers," Sykes said.

"I don't know what you procure," King said.

And you wonder why it's time for King to go?

Maybe Wanda Sykes should replace Larry King!

Yep, I believe her when she said they didn't get much intelligence from her. She is, however, correct. A procurement analyst buys furniture, computers, whatever it takes to support an organization's offices and function. That is the difference between a procurement analyst and an acquisition analyst.

I prefer to think it was hookers, at least for a few minutes no one is causing much trouble... but since it wasn't the CIA it probably wasn't hookers just phone sex and listening in to it...

RealTexan1, that comment was brilliant, and funny, and smart, and must have taken a lot of thought to come up with. You should be proud of yourself. You have represented yourself and family very well. Just, well done!! *golf clap*
