Audio: The Secretary of Stand-up

Sirius/XM's POTUS Channel (a must-listen if you have satellite radio -- if only because The Eye is a frequent guest) spun together some of the corniest jokes served up by Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates. Listen above and laugh -- if you enjoy corny jokes.

As The Post's Greg Jaffe reports today, Gates's anti-Washington jokes sound as though they were cribbed from an old issue of Reader's Digest. They're a staple of just about every speech that the defense secretary gives outside of Washington. His ordinarily loyal staffers roll their eyes at his one-liners. The press corps groans. Gates's speechwriters have even been known to take his jokes out of speeches in an effort to dissuade the secretary from telling them. Gates puts them back.
