Combined Federal Campaign kicks off

The 2010 Combined Federal Campaign kicks off this week. The massive fundraising drive for federal workers runs through December. OPM Chief John Berry writes a memorandum to departments and agencies urging federal workers to pledge donations.
• In other news, the U.S. Postal Service began contract talks with its largest union Wednesday seeking big concessions as it continues to lose money.
• Hurricane Earl is bearing down on the East Coast as the National Weather Service restores the storm to a Class 4 hurricane.
• Education Secretary Arne Duncan hits the road in a bus in a victory lap for the Race to the Top initiative.
• NASA launches a competition for federal grants for an estimated 9,000 contractors to create jobs when the shuttle program ends next year.
