Unscheduled leave or telework for feds on Tuesday

Federal government offices in the Washington area are open on Tuesday, but workers may take unscheduled leave or telework from home if necessary.

The Office of Personnel Management is permitting eligible federal workers to use annual leave, earned time off or to take leave without pay if necessary.

Employees already scheduled to telework today are expected to do so as scheduled, OPM said. "Emergency employees" are expected to report to work as scheduled.

According to The Post's Capital Weather Gang, very icy conditions due to the falling temperatures (into the low-to-mid 20s) are likely to cause very slick roads (particularly those untreated) and sidewalks for the a.m. commute. Plan your Tuesday commute with The Post's Dr. Gridlock.

Just an observation: The use of terms like working from home and liberal leave in the same sentance just doesn't show an understanding of what it means to work from home, or telework, or take liberal leave. Nor does it show an understanding of the investment in IT infrastructure required of the federal employer to support and provide teleconference and virtual meeting capabilities required to conduct business from your home office. Becuase without such available IT Infrastructure and Telecommunication capabilities, in addition to a Database and an Access Control Program or two, who can really work from home these days in what is suggested here to be in isolation; when everyone else is on liberal leave ? Just trying to understand the picture here. So stay at home, and take leave, or work. On what ?

Too many people abuse the unscheduled leave/telework as an excuse to stay home. Being allowed to accumulate 3-4 hours credit while telework should be illegal, however, people stay home, watch TV, build snowmen, and babysit, claiming 11-12 hour days, when they don't even work 11-12 hour days when they actually come to work.

What exactly is wrong with not working while "teleworking" if you don't work at work? At least you're saving the cost of keeping your office space powered, lighted, and cleaned.

I'm actually more productive working at home than in the office because at home, I don't have to deal with all the office yentas who come into my office to give gossip (which is almost always wrong, in any event).

@ getjiggly1... Typical classic anti-govt worker response as usual. I hope you live in a cave far from civilization and refuse any and all services.

@ NWS4215... What are you facts or what is a the basis of your spew? You have hidden cameras in private homes of teleworkers? Or are you simply jealous and posting baloney fox news, republican, chamber of commerce, koch bros. koolaid?
