Battle royal over federal worker pay

All that Wednesday's House hearing on federal pay needed to be complete was an announcer with a booming voice asking the packed room, "Are you ready to rumble?"

Federal pay and benefits back in the spotlight

The Republican-led House is scheduled to hold its first hearing Wednesday on the compensation of federal employees, pitting the Obama administration and federal worker union leaders against conservative fiscal experts armed with detailed reports suggesting federal employees are paid too generously when compared to private sector workers.

Tips on how to fix the Senate confirmation process

Senators are expected soon to introduce legislation that would drop the confirmation process for about 400 federal agency nominees. While they're at it, some veteran observers of the process on Wednesday said the Senate should make other changes to how it confirms a president's nominees.

Federal pay amendment to House spending bill fails

An aggressive House spending plan passed early Saturday doesn't include any amendments curtailing the pay or benefits of federal employees or cutting the size of the federal workforce.

Darrell Issa wants to freeze some federal worker raises

Buried amid the hundreds of proposed amendments to a Republican-backed government spending measure is a proposal to prohibit federal agencies from giving pay raises to workers who get a promotion.
