Detours Start on Two Commuter Routes

Drivers will find detours in place today on the E Street Expressway in the District and the Clara Barton Parkway in Montgomery County where ramps are closed for repair.

E Street Expressway
The District Department of Transportation is beginning repairs to the ramp leading from the expressway to westbound I-66 on Monday. The repairs are scheduled to take about three weeks.

All the bridge joints will be replaced and the deck will be reconditioned with a concrete overlay.

Detour: Follow directions to the northbound Potomac River Freeway, then go left onto 27th Street NW, then make an immediate left onto southbound Potomac River Freeway, then get onto westbound I-66.

Clara Barton Parkway
Maryland's State Highway Administration is closing and repairing the bridge that takes westbound traffic from the parkway onto the southbound Capital Beltway heading for Virginia. Drivers will use a detour for about 10 weeks.

The diversion should add no more than five minutes for the approximately 600 drivers a day who use the ramp, SHA says.

Detour: Take westbound Clara Barton Parkway to the next exit at the Naval Surface Warfare Center. Traffic will cross over the parkway, making two left turns, and exit back onto the parkway heading eastbound. Drivers will then take a left exit to southbound Interstate 495.

This must be the same E Street entrance that takes you to the Georgetown Parkway, north. Do you have a suggestion for this detour?

Yeah, I don't want to take 66 when I get onto the TR bridge, I get onto GW parkway..is there a way to do this or do I need to get onto Constitution?

The TR Bridge is part of I-66. If you want to go from E Street to the GW Parkway, you need to follow the detour Dr. Gridlock posted, use the Whitehurst, or use the ramp at the Kennedy Center.

I take the e-street expressway to get to the Whitehurst Freeway. Will that be affected?

"I take the e-street expressway to get to the Whitehurst Freeway. Will that be affected?"

Notice the detour Dr. Gridlock posted. This takes you via the same route you use to go from E Street to the Whitehurst, except you take the left fork when you come out of the tunnel on I-66 (as if you're going to the Kennedy Center or the Watergate) instead of the right fork to go to the Whitehurst or Pennsylvania Avenue.
