The Weekend and Beyond
Here's some advice in planning your travels for this weekend and the rest of the month.
Nation's Triathlon on Sunday
The National Park Service and the District will be closing off some streets in Washington and Montgomery County on Sunday morning and early afternoon for the biking and running parts of The Nation's Triathlon. Use this link to see a list of the closures and the times. On this page, you'll find The Post's map and description of the course.
Metrorail Track Work
This is the weekend for the annual inspection and maintenance project on the bridge that takes the Yellow Line across the Potomac. (One of the best views in the Metrorail system.) Best bet is to use the Blue Line instead. More details are available here on Metro's Web site. That's the only maintenance project this weekend that will disrupt your train travels.
Use this link to see Metro's list of events on Saturday and Sunday that are going to require some Metrobus rerouting. The two big events are on Sunday: The Nation's Triathlon and the annual Adams Morgan Day Festival. (The bus lines affected are listed.)
FedEx on Sunday
The Redskins play the Saints at 1 p.m. Because of the federal rules designed to make sure that private bus companies don't have to compete with publicly supported bus agencies, Metro can no longer provide shuttle bus service.
So if you're trying to reach the game by transit, you're best bet is to take the Blue Line to Morgan Boulevard Station and walk about a mile north along a sidewalk to the stadium. Metro has some other information here for fans going to the game. Here's a link to the information that the Redskins supply about game day parking.
Eastern Shore Traffic
This from the Maryland Transportation Authority: Delmarva Bike Week began Thursday and continues through Sunday in Ocean City. If you're traveling to and from the Eastern Shore, stay alert for increased motorcycle traffic on the roadways eastbound on Friday and westbound on Sunday.
If the weather is good on Sunday, the Maryland State Highway Administration plans to switch Route 450 traffic from the at-grade rail crossing to the new overpass near the Peace Cross in Bladensburg. The switchover is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Fairfax Connector Strike?
The labor contract between employees and the operator of the Fairfax Connector bus service in South Fairfax County expires at midnight Sunday and negotiations are continuing.
If there is a strike on Monday, connector service in the southern county would be limited. Service would be hourly on routes 101, 151, 152, 171, 310, 321, 322 and 401. There would be no service on 161, 162, 231, 232, 301, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307, 331, 332, 380 and VRE EZBus North and South.
For updates, check the connector's Web site at www.fairfaxconnector.com or call the connector's information center at 703-339-7200, TTY 703-339-1608.

St. Mary's Hearing
The Maryland Department of Transportation is starting its annual tour of the state to present its capital plan for local review and comment. At 3 p.m. Thursday, Transportation Secretary John D. Porcari, State Highway Administrator Neil J. Pedersen and other department officials are scheduled to hold a public session in St. Mary's County. They will be at the Commissioner's Meeting Room in the Chesapeake Building, 41770 Baldridge St., Leonardtown.
The Bus Fare
A hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 10 in Prince George's County on a proposal to increase the 75 cent full fare for rides on the county's transit service, known as TheBus.
The hearing on the proposed one dollar increase in the fare will be held at 10 a.m. in the fourth floor conference room at 9400 Peppercorn Place in Largo. The fare increase would take effect on Nov. 3. People can register to speak at the hearing by calling 301-883-5656.
A mile and a half of Veirs Mill Road will be resurfaced starting next week. The job is scheduled to be completed next spring. During the $2.9 million construction between Norbeck Road and Rock Creek Bridge, watch for single lane closures and possible lane shifts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 8 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. There may be double lane closures between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday.
Paving in Frederick County
Workers are resurfacing about two miles of Foxville Road between Park Central Road and Hunting Creek near Thurmont and should finish by the end of the month. Watch for single lane closures and lane shifts between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and expect delays.
George Washington Parkway
Watch for right lane closures, northbound and southbound, on the Humpback Bridge between I-395 and the Arlington Memorial Bridge from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
MTA Commuter Meeting
From the Maryland Transit Authority for riders on Route 902: Meet the commuter bus managers on at the Dunkirk, Sunderland, Prince Frederick and St. Leonard Park & Ride lots from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
