Highway Projects Resuming
After a few days off for the holiday, the region's transportation departments are scheduled to resume highway construction. So just because it's December, don't be lulled into thinking you won't encounter workers on the roadways, both day and night.
Here's one starting up tonight in Maryland:
Northbound traffic on Route 355 (Urbana Pike) north of the Walser Drive intersection will be shifted into newly built additional lanes. The State Highway Administration is widening Route 355 as part of the larger I-70 interchange project at Routes 85 and 475. Shifting the northbound traffic to the new northbound lanes will allow crews to work in the median of the roadway while traffic continues to flow.
The traffic shift is scheduled to start at 9 o'clock tonight. The SHA also will shift traffic along Walser Drive to a newly built section, allowing work on the south side of the road. The interchange project is scheduled for completion fall 2009.
