GWU Recommends Taking Metro to Ball

George Washington University is telling students to skip shuttles and take Metro to the school's inaugural ball at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Woodley Park, according to the school's Hatchet newspaper:

"Based on the road closures that we're seeing, we're encouraging students to take Metro because, with the road closures, we're not sure if the shuttles can get through the paths we've marked out," said Michelle Sherrard, a University spokeswoman.
She assured, however, that the shuttles have alternate routes planned and will run as quickly and smoothly as possible. Shuttles are scheduled to arrive at 7:15 p.m. - 19 shuttles will run from the Marvin Center and three from the Mount Vernon campus - and run continuously throughout the night.

You can read the full story on the Hatchet's web site.

Any word yet on when the Potomac River bridges will open in the morning, i.e., will AM rush hour be affected? Thank you.
