Metro Modifies Station Closings for Jan. 20

This morning, I said that Inauguration Day plans keep evolving. They just evolved some more.

The transit authority announced that the Smithsonian Metrorail station on the Blue and Orange lines and the Archives Station on the Green and Yellow lines will reopen following the Inauguration parade at about 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 20.

The old plan called for them to be shut down all day, for security and crowd control reasons. Reopening them in the early evening will help clear out central Washington after the day's events, but they're likely to be very crowded, like the other downtown stations.

You can find more updates today at Inauguration Central.

which station would seem to be a better choice to drop off metrorail riders on inauguration day- Dunn Loring or West Falls Church? Buses are allowed at WFC and Dunn Loring is one station closer to the beginning of the line. Is is obvious?

Also what time are buses scheduled to drop off people?

Dunn Loring is the better choice. WFC is inside the Beltway on Route 66, making it harder to get to; also, riders have a better chance of getting a seat at DL.

Dr. Gridlock, can you help? I have to take my son to an important doctor's appointment at 2:30 pm on the 20th. I am coming from Ashburn and need to get to Seven Locks Road and McArthur Blvd. Usually we take 267 to the beltway to River Road and get off at Cabin John. Is there a chance that we'll be able to do that on Tuesday afternoon or should we cancel the appointment and have to wait a long time to reschedule? I would very much appreciate any advice you can give me.
