ARRGGGHHH. Why in the heck didn't the authorities do us all the courtesy of announcing today's road closures in advance, when they obviously knew they were going to be closing major roads all around downtown? It took me 1.5 hours to drive about 1.5 miles to my office. This can't be a security concern; it appears simply to be complete and total contempt, unconcern, indifference and discourtesy to the people who live and work in D.C. I am beginning to agree with whoever called the security for this inauguration "Security on Steroids."

Hobbes - that would be too much like respecting the people who live in DC and the immediate suburbs of VA and MD.

While I'm still steamed over the closures of 395 and 66 inside the Beltway (and the complete lack of explanation and head-slapping stupidity, since it cuts off several Metro shuttle bus depots to interstate traffic - the bridges really aren't a big deal by comparison), I do admit that people who live inside the city are far more screwed.
