Veterans Highway Reopens After Gas Leak
Update, 8:43 p.m.: Veterans Highway has reopened after a gas rupture this afternoon shut the roadway for several hours.
Update, 6:49 p.m.: A gas leak on Veterans Highway has been contained but the road remains closed between Maxwell Frye Road and Benfield Blvd., said Battalion Chief Matthew Tobia of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
Original post, 5:33 p.m.: Anne Arundel County fire officials say a ruptured natural gas line near Millersville has prompted the closure of a highway and the evacuation of several nearby businesses and homes.
The four-inch line was struck about noon and a section of Veterans Highway was expected to remain closed through the afternoon rush hour.
No injuries have been reported.
