Kitchen Fire Snarls Traffic Near White House
A small kitchen fire at Olives Restaurant snarled traffic near the White House for more than an hour this morning.
About 11 a.m. pedestrians saw yellowish smoke coming from the restaurant at the intersection of 16th and K streets NW. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Service responded within minutes and blocked off the intersection within a one-block radius.
Fire officials said improper ventilation from the restaurant's rooftop vent caused the smoke to billow out onto the street.
No injuries were reported.
