No Weekend Closure on Canal Road NW
Dear Dr. Gridlock:
I'm having one heck of a time finding out information about Saturday's closure of Canal Road NW.
There's a massive sign saying the street will be closed, but the sign does not specify how far along the street will be closed, whether or not the Chain Bridge will still be open, and give no specifics on where to get more information.

At first, I thought this might be connected to the just-begun Chain Bridge rehab project, so I asked John Lisle, spokesman for the District Department of Transportation.
But he said, No, Canal Road will be open. It had nothing to do with Chain Bridge. The variable message signs were put out there by the park service, which had been planning to do some landscaping work this weekend. That's been postponed, Lisle said, and the message boards should be shut off.
Our letter writer said he wanted to know because he is set to lead a ride of 60 Vespa scooters up the George Washington Parkway this weekend with some friends as part of Saturday's D.C. Scooter Rally, and would prefer to cross over at Chain Bridge instead of at Interstate 495. He said you can learn more about the scooter rally here.
"Basically," he wrote, "we're going from H Street NE through Downtown to Whitehurst, Chain Bridge to GW Parkway, which we'll follow all the way down to Mt. Vernon. We may shimmy back through Old Town on the return trip back up North, then via Memorial Bridge to Hains Point, and then through the city up to 955 V Street, for a grand opening party at Modern Classics, the new scooter store."
