The Weekend and Beyond
Some traffic and transit notes I hope will help smooth your travels on Saturday and Sunday, and during the rest of June.

Reservoir Road NW to M Street NW, Whitehurst Freeway, and K Street NW under the

Capital Pride Festival Sunday
Starting at 9 p.m. Saturday and continuing through 6 p.m. Sunday, these streets will be closed for the Capital Pride Festival:
-- Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 3rd and 7th streets
-- Constitution Avenue NW between 3rd and 7th streets
Metrorail Weekend Delays
Red Line riders between the Van Ness and Dupont Circle should add at least half an hour to their normal trip time this weekend, because Metro will be replacing fasteners that stabilize tracks and making tunnel repairs. Trains will be sharing a single track through the work zone from 10 p.m. Friday to the midnight closing on Sunday.
On Saturday and Sunday, all Red Line trains will operate every 17 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day, extra trains will be operating between Farragut North and Silver Spring.
Riders should add at least a half hour to weekend trips between Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street on the Blue Line and Huntington on the Yellow Line. Metro workers will be tamping the rail tracks to ensure durability, the transit authority says. Trains will share one track through the work areas from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Ramp to 12th Street Tunnel Closed
The eastbound ramp to the tunnel will be closed all weekend as part of the rehab of the 11th Street Bridge in Southwest. (Not the big one in Southeast.) The closing starts at 7 p.m. Friday and ends by 5 a.m. Monday.
Traffic from the 14th Street Bridge must use another route to get downtown. Drivers could go north on 14th Street, or take the L'Enfant Plaza exit to D Street SW. Detour signs will direct them to 7th Street.
Benning Road Repairs
The District Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin paving at several Benning Road NE intersections on Friday. Impact on drivers: Temporary "no left turn" restrictions between 23rd Place and Oklahoma Avenue; temporary lane closings westbound. The left turn restrictions are likely to continue until Aug. 1.
From 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, traffic heading west on Benning between 16th and 21st streets will be restricted to one lane. There will be no restrictions over the weekend. But they will be back during the same hours Monday through Sunday next week.
The two northernmost lanes on the westbound side (heading toward downtown) will be closed to apply the final coat of asphalt. One westbound lane will always be open and all of the inbound lanes will be available during the morning rush hours (as long as you rush before 9:30).
Bus Stops: Metrobus riders will still be able to use the bus stops. DDOT says there will be flaggers stationed near the bus stops to help passengers.
Nice Bridge Lane Closing
One lane of the Nice Memorial Bridge, which takes Route 301 over the Potomac, is scheduled to be closed to traffic from 8 p.m. Saturday (June 13) to 5 a.m Monday (June 15). Traffic will alternate in the open lane during these closures, so congestion is very likely.
Route 29 Road Work
Watch for single lane closings from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays on northbound Route 29 near Briggs Chaney Road in Montgomery County.
BWI Train Station
On Monday, construction is scheduled to begin on the north end of the northbound platform at BWI Station. Passengers for that platform will need to use a temporary walk way facing the ticket office.
