Takoma station will close again tonight and tomorrow at 10 p.m.
Metro has announced that they will close the Takoma station again tonight and Tuesday at 10 p.m. They kept it open on Saturday night to alleviate delays on July Fourth, but it was closed again Sunday.
Riders using the stretch at that hour know the drill by now. When Takoma closes, buses shuttle passengers from there to the stations at Fort Totten and Silver Spring. The train then runs in two segments: from Fort Totten to Shady Grove and Glenmont to Silver Spring.
Trains are moving at normal speeds today across the Red Line, but passengers still struggled with congestion during rush hour.
The continuation of the nighttime closure at Takoma indicates that investigators are still running tests on the block of track impacted by the June 22 crash that killed nine and injured 80.
