Police Investigation Closes 14th Street NW at Newton and Irving
D.C. police have shut down traffic in the 3300 block of 14th St NW in Columbia Heights as they investigate a nearby shooting that wounded a man around 3:30 p.m.
Police said a man was shot in the back this afternoon at 16th Street NW and Spring Road NW. "He is conscious and breathing." said police spokeswoman Gwen Crump. The victim's name and other identifying details were not immediately available.
Access to 14th Street NW is closed at Newton and Irving streets NW and traffic is being diverted, said District Department of Transportation spokesman John Lisle. "It's best right now for people to avoid that area," he said.
The gunman was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and khaki shorts, and rode away on a bicycle, according to a police text alert on the incident.
