Headaches on the Horizon
Weeknight Metro Delays
Metro has been warning for weeks about the work it's planning this Columbus Day weekend on the Green and Yellow lines. Starting Friday night, the Waterfront-SEU and Archives Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter stations and the Green Line at L'Enfant Plaza Station will be closed. Workers will be replacing rail switches at L'Enfant Plaza and inspecting the bridge on the Yellow Line over the Potomac River.
Rerouted Yellow Line: The Yellow Line will be rerouted to follow the Blue Line route from Pentagon to Stadium-Armory. Trains will stop at the lower level of L'Enfant Plaza. On Friday night, from 10:30 p.m. until closing, the Yellow Line will run between Huntington and Pentagon.
Weekend shuttle bus service: Free shuttle buses will run directly from Gallery Place-Chinatown to the Metro Center, Navy Yard and Anacostia stations. Another shuttle from Gallery Place to Navy Yard will make stops at Waterfront-SEU and L'Enfant Plaza. The shuttles will run every 12 to 15 minutes during the three days of closures and every 20 minutes after 9:30 p.m., Metro said.
Airpark Road Closing
The Maryland State Highway Administration reports that it is temporarily closing access to and from Airpark Road at MD 124 (Woodfield Road) Saturday to improve the pavement in the intersection.
Crews are scheduled to close Airpark at MD 124 beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday, and the closure will last until 5 a.m. Sunday. Traffic will be directed to use Rickenbacker Drive and Chennault Way as alternatives; MD 124 will remain open. Watch for signs and crews directing you through the work zone.
