Headaches on the Horizon
Metro Scheduled to Finish Repair Work
At last report from Metro, the work on the Green and Yellow lines this Columbus Day weekend was progressing according to schedule. The transit agency has been replacing four switches at the L'Enfant Plaza Metrorail station, inspecting the Yellow Line bridge that crosses the Potomac and replacing fasteners on the bridge.
That means Waterfront-SEU and Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter stations will still be closed Monday night, and Green Line service at L'Enfant Plaza is currently suspended. Normal service is scheduled to resume at 5 a.m. Tuesday. The Green Line is operating with service between Branch Avenue and Navy Yard stations and between Greenbelt and Gallery Place-Chinatown stations. There is no Yellow Line service between the Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter and Fort Totten stations.
Central Avenue Ramp Closure
The Maryland State Highway Administration will close the ramp from eastbound MD 214 (Central Avenue) to southbound I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway). Roadwork will include milling and resurfacing the existing pavement, and adding new pavement markings.
Crews will close the Central Avenue ramp overnight between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. In case of inclement weather, crews will work the next available evening.
Be prepared for delays near the interchanges. Crews will direct drivers to the westbound Central Avenue ramp to northbound I-95/I-495, then to Exit 17 (westbound MD 202/Landover Road) to a left turn back to the ramp for southbound I-95/I-495.
Telegraph Road Closure Rescheduled for Wednesday
Officials with the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project have rescheduled the complete overnight closure of Telegraph Road and associated ramps in the area of the Capital Beltway for Wednesday between 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday.
You should expect delays in the area, and officials are encouraging motorists to take other routes.
Crews will stop traffic in both directions on Telegraph Road between Duke Street and Huntington Avenue to pour concrete. All associated ramps to and from the Beltway will also be closed. However, motorists traveling from the inner loop into the Eisenhower Valley will be able to use the Pershing Avenue exit.
The detours for northbound and southbound Telegraph Road are as follows:
Northbound: Huntington Avenue east to U.S. Route 1 North to Duke Street west.
Southbound: Duke Street east to U.S. Route 1 south to Huntington Avenue west to Telegraph Road south.
